Govt Committed To Town Hall Meetings

Information Minister – Mustapha Abdul-Hamid

The Minister of Information, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has hinted that, this year’s series of Town Hall Meetings will be launched at Dzodze in the Ketu-North District of the Volta Region in April 2018.

According to him, government is committed to making governance more transparent so as to allow more Ghanaians understand its policies and activities and also be able to contribute in diverse ways to the growth of Ghana’s democracy.

He believes that Town Hall meetings are effective media by which Ghanaians at the grassroots can hear directly from government and lay their complaints, problems and make suggestions directly to government.

He charged the media to monitor and publicize the various dates and venues of the Town Hall Meetings and highlight issues raised at these meetings to remind government of the needs of the people and also remind the people of their responsibilities to the country.

The Information Minister was interacting with media practitioners in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

According to the Minister, these interactions will help government hear at first hand, some of the issues that are raised in the media from the regions and also allow the media practitioners to have proper understanding of national issues and policies from the government.

He charged the journalists to update their knowledge on national issues and not be partisan in interrogating them.

“The media should be able to look at the faces of the NDC and NPP and tell them what is right and true, especially when the two parties are being partisan on national matters. … but the media can do this only when the Journalists are on top of issues and have done extensive research.”

The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari commended the media in the region for their role in highlighting the investment potentials in the region to attract local and foreign investments.
