President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denied being flown out of the country to either the United Kingdom (UK) or anywhere in the world to receive treatment during his 14-day self-imposed quarantine at the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House in Accra.
He decided to self-quarantine after a member of his close staff was said to have tested positive for Covid-19.
All subsequent tests conducted on the President, according to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, have come out negative.
But that was not enough for his ill-wishers, particularly some members of the main opposition party, who tried to push the agenda that the President was flown out of the country to the UK for treatment.
First, they claimed that the President tested positive and had been hospitalized, compelling his handlers to release a picture of one of the daughters of the President together with him beaming with smiles from the Presidential Villa.
As if that was not enough, the propagandists then threw in another spurious claim that his condition had degenerated so he had been flown outside the country, specifically to the UK, to receive medical attention.
Just when that vile rumour went viral, a video emerged of the President having a virtual meeting with the Advisory Committee of his campaign communications team.
This was followed by a video of the President having another meeting; this time around, the first ever virtual cabinet meeting in the history of the country.
The 14-day self-imposed quarantine, however, came to an end on Saturday, July 18, 2020 and by early Monday he was in office working assiduously.
President Akufo-Addo commented on the issue for the first time on Tuesday evening when leadership and some members of the Vehicle and Asset Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG) called on him at the Presidency.
“I will want to thank you for your interest in my welfare. I am fine and I am here. I was sitting in my room and I was told I was sitting in a plane for Oxford and I was amazed, but here it is; this is the Ghana where we live,” he said.
That was after the General Secretary of VADUG, Joshua Opoku-Agyemang, welcomed him from his self-imposed quarantine and wished him good health and long life.
He, therefore, asked all those concerned to treat the speculation with utmost contempt since it was borne out of mischief and ill-will.
