I Didn’t Leak My Sex Tape – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has dismissed claims that she deliberately leaked her sex tape to stay relevant in the music industry.

The singer’s private video went viral in 2021 after she refused to give in to a blackmailer’s demands, sparking widespread backlash and criticism across social media.

In an interview with American radio station, Hot 97, Tiwa recounted the emotional toll the scandal took on her, saying many people unfairly blamed her instead of recognising her as a victim.

“I was bashed for my sex video. A lot of people think I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were quite horrible and blamed me,” she said.

According to the award-winning artist, the narrative that she staged the leak for attention made no sense.

“They said I did it to be relevant. If I were doing that, I would’ve been intentional about it. I would have used better lighting, lingerie, and my facial expressions would have been on point,” she added.

The singer, who has consistently used her platform to address issues affecting women, noted that the experience highlighted how society often shames victims instead of holding perpetrators accountable.
