Insults: Mahama’s Distinguishing Feature

The Ghanaian people should be more discerning during the run-up to Election 2024.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has nothing to offer aside its disrespect for statesmen such as former President John Agyekum Kufuor. They did same to one of the noble personalities of our generation, former Chief Justice Georgina Wood, when the Montie Three used very indecent language to express their disagreement about a ruling of the Supreme Court.

Against the general feeling and position of the majority of citizens at the time, former President John Mahama in 2016 granted them unconditional pardon.

Faced with the wrath of the people in the unwarranted attack on John Agyekum Kufuor by NDC apparatchik Dela Edem, the NDC led by John Mahama is shedding crocodile tears about that gaffe by Dela Edem. The NDC, in a statement, has distanced itself from the disparaging remarks against John Agyekum Kufuor by Dela Edem, not because the party does not support the hate speech but purely to avert the electoral disaster that awaits them on December 7.

The NDC does not wish this country well and that is why the NDC Minority aided by Speaker Bagbin have closed Parliament while government business remains unattended to.

Again, MP Akandoh is claiming the Minority NDC will not endorse the proposal to introduce dialysis treatment by the government on December 1, when in the past the NDC had earlier raised concern about dialysis patients.

The NDC just believes in lies as it has nothing to offer the people by way of policy interventions.

The NDC alternative is abominable as the party represents backwardness, untruth and divisiveness instead of bold solutions to our challenges.

The crime of former President Kufuor is that he has called on the people to vote for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia because he is a man of vision.

We trust that Ghanaians will go into the polling booths on December 7 with open and discerning minds to vote for people who are prepared to offer the bold solutions to our challenges but not insults and running away from debate like chicken.

We remember former President John Mahama’s famous remarks when John Kufuor said the charges levelled against Kennedy Agyapong was like killing a mosquito with a sledgehammer, and former President John Mahama responded, “we will go after Kennedy Agyapong with a bulldozer.”

The insults, indiscipline and violent nature of NDC leaders and apparatchiks just represent the distinguishing characteristics of John Mahama, although an intellectual, lack the temperament to debate issues.

That is why his campaign so far across the country is lacking in any substance to deal with the challenges of our times. And that is why on the least opportunity he has to tell us Mahamudu Bawumia is not his class for a debate.

John Mahama has fired five questions to Mahamudu Bawumia, and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has also fired 50.

The only way to settle “who is who” is not by the strategy of John Mahama. We want the two politicians to face off in the presidential debate for Ghanaians to judge the candidate better suited to be trusted with the leadership of the country.

The two leaders have been Vice Presidents before and one is a former President. We plead with the two to give us a better opportunity to assess them at least when they were Vice Presidents.

Now and again, our leaders, temporal and religious have reminded politicians to stick to politics of issues and not insults. The NDC and its apparatchiks believe they have the magic wand to “reset” Ghana. They should tell us the policy interventions that will help them to rescue Ghana. It does not lie in NDC’s “insult-a-thon” to rebuild the Ghana we all desire.
