The Board Chairman of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr. David Nkansa Dwamena, has called on the business community to invest in infrastructure projects at the hospital to enhance healthcare services.

Speaking at the Suppliers Conference organised to commemorate the teaching hospital’s centenary celebration, Dr. Dwamena emphasised that the demand for quality healthcare services is increasing.

He stated that investing in hospital projects can help alleviate pressures on healthcare delivery.

“The funding of public hospitals is a global endeavor that thrives on the synergy between state support and the generosity of philanthropic corporate bodies and individuals,” he noted.

“Today, we seek your crucial support to fund several key projects that will ensure Korle-Bu Hospital remains at the forefront of advanced healthcare well into the future,” he said.

“An investment in Korle-Bu is an investment in our community’s wellbeing and resilience, a commitment that will enhance our ability to serve everyone when they need it most,” he added.

CEO of KBTH, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, said some of the infrastructural projects planned to commemorate the centenary celebration, included the construction of a 24-hour pharmacy and a multipurpose building that may house departments such as a cafeteria, NHIS pharmacy, and meeting rooms.

Additionally, there are plans for an Endoscopy and Day Surgery Unit, as well as a Daycare Center.

According to him, the selected projects are essential because, “Korle-Bu has always been equipped to cater to the most complex cases, and that is something management is committed to maintaining.”

He further noted that the hospital attends to approximately 1,500 to 2,500 patients every weekday, admits between 250 and 300 patients daily, and serves about 20,000 individuals each year.

Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah also acknowledged the support of suppliers in facilitating health operations at the hospital.

“We thank you for always coming through for us, for your resilience, and for helping us reach mutual agreements that foster further collaboration and success in our endeavors,” he concluded.

As part of activities to mark the centenary celebration, the hospital will organise a health festival from the August 7th to 9th 2024, with a focus on industry trends, best practices, and a cutting-edge discussion on innovation solutions in health
