Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama – MP for Walewale
The Member of Parliament for the Walewale Constituency, Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, has called for investigations into the killing of two persons in Walewale in the North East Region.
Making this call on the floor of parliament, the Walewale MP said “Mr. Speaker, I wish to appeal that you direct a full-scale investigations into the death of two persons in the last two weeks in the hands of the military and police to bring justice to their families”.
The Walewale MP condemned the alleged military brutality on residents of Walewale and its environs and appealed to the government to review the curfew imposed ion the community.
“While condemning the atrocities against innocent travelers and the maiming and killing of residents by the security personnel, I appeal for the review of the curfew imposed on my constituents,” he said.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased persons.
“ I want to convey my condolences to the families of the several innocent lives that have been lost due to the unfortunate developments,” he added.
According to him, the people of Walewale and its environs are now living in pain, apprehension, and fear and therefore the right decision must be taken at the right time.
He recommended that the Interior Minister should enhance patrols and escort for travelers on the affected roads as well as the police adopting community engagement to get the support of the communities to fight the activities of criminals.
In the past weeks, reports indicate that about 7 persons have lost their lives due to gun attacks with at least two buses completely burnt to ashes in Walewale and its environs.
