Prof. Raymond Atuguba
The Member of Parliament (MP) Adansi Asokwa, K.T. Hammond, expects the Ghana Police Service to start probing the comment made by the Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, Prof. Raymond Atuguba by inviting him for predicting coup in Ghana.
According to him, he will be surprised if Prof. Atuguba has not yet been invited by the security agencies following his coup comment that Ghana is ‘ripe for a coup d’etat.’
KT Hammond who condemned the comment by the former Executive Secretary to John Dramani Mahama by describing its as a clear foolishness.
Prof. Atuguba’s made the comments at a forum organised by Solidaire Ghana in Accra on Monday February 28, 2022 said “We do not want coup in this country but if we do not act quickly we may have one in our hands. There is one thing to do now, prevent coup in Ghana since the climate and the environment, national and immediate international, are conducive for one. We must compel the government to acknowledge the current economic mess, they mostly created and previous governments, to a larger extent.
“Ghana’s economic problems started before Covid-19. On balance, Covid-19 was a good thing for Africa and Ghana.” he said at a forum held by Solidaire Ghana.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament in reation, Mr. K.T Hammond said, “I will be surprised if they have not already invited him.
“He is a professor and of no other thing than of law. He understands the constitution,” he added.
He wondered why such comments are only coming from people aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially when they are not in government.
“The NPP was not entirely happy about everything that the NDC regime did. Nobody called for a coup.
“Why is it that in the course of the NPP administration, at every opportunity that they get, the irresponsible ones are calling for the intervention of the military,” Mr. Hammond fumed.
“The NDC; those irresponsible ones among us, should be very careful. Calling for coups today or coups tomorrow does not inure to anybody’s interest or anybody’s benefit.
“I will be surprised if they have not already invited him. Clear foolishness.”
