Authorities at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi need GH¢120 million to help address equipment and infrastructural deficit at the medical facility.
Out of that figure, GH¢70 million would be used to fix faulty equipment and purchase new equipment for the accident and emergency unit (A&E), intensive care unit, theatre and the wards.
The remaining GH¢50 million of the total amount would also be used to help bring the needed infrastructural expansion of psychiatry services, diabetic care centre and a modern central laboratory project.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr. Oheneba-Danso, disclosed that management has decided to create an innovative way of assisting government to address the equipment and infrastructure deficit at KATH.
In line with this, he mentioned that plans have been put in place to help raise money from companies and individuals to help address the needs of the hospital.
Significantly, the GH¢120 million needed to address the infrastructural and equipment deficit at KATH does not include the over 40-year-old maternity and children block project.
He disclosed that a whopping $120 to 140 million is needed to help complete that project alone.
Dr. Oheneba-Danso said the endowment fund would have an 11-member management team to manage it, adding that the fund would be officially launched at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on Friday.
