Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi in Kotoko kit
The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, has declared his intention to become Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko SC, describing the position as the highest honour one can attain in Ashanti aside from a traditional authority under Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Speaking on OTEC FM’s evening sports programme hosted by Kanu on Friday, February 13, the Kumasi Mayor said leading the Porcupine Warriors would be the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition.
“I will become CEO of Asante Kotoko before I die,” he declared, stressing that in the Ashanti Region, the most prestigious role—outside of chieftaincy—is to head Kotoko.
King Zuba, a known staunch supporter of the Kumasi-based club, described Kotoko as a historic institution that has brought honour not only to Asanteman but also to Ghana as a whole.
His latest comments and public show of support for Kotoko have since generated discussions among football lovers, reinforcing the club’s deep-rooted cultural and emotional significance in Kumasi and beyond.
Kotoko, founded in 1935, remains one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs, having won numerous league titles and FA Cups. The club has also conquered Africa twice, lifting the CAF Champions League trophy and reaching several continental finals.
