Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has reportedly ordered the President of Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University, Michael Adofo Abuah to step aside for probe over alleged embezzlement of fund and misconduct.
The SRC President, Michael Adofo Abuah, and Speaker of the SRC, Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng, were each given orders by management of the University to refund GHC6,710.00 by August 8.
The duo allegedly took the money under the pretext of educational excursion but did not go anywhere as they have been charged with misusing of student funds.
The SRC President is facing possible dismissal by the KNUST management if he found culpable.
This follows investigation into alleged misbehaviour and embezzlement by the Speaker and SRC President.
In a letter dated August 25 and signed by the Deputy Registrar (Student Affairs), Lucy Diawuo, the management of the university asked the SRC president to step aside by the end of August 25 to allow for an investigation.
“Pursuant to the allegations of misconduct against you for which reason the University has empanelled the Junior Member Disciplinary Committee (JMDC) to investigate same per letters referenced LWS/621A and dated August 18, 2022, | write on behalf of the Registrar to inform you to step aside as the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) by close of today the 25th of August 2022, pending the outcome of the official investigations into the alleged matters.
“By a copy of this letter, the SRC Judicial Committee is to ensure, in accordance with the SRC Constitution, that no hiatus is created in the admini student body. The Judicial Committee should liaise with the Director of Students Affairs for the necessary actions to be taken for the effective running of the SRC Administration,” the letter stated.
On record, Michael Abuah becomes the first KNUST SRC President at the KNUST in history to be sacked from Office.
