Military vehicle parked at KNUST, which looks like a ghost town
THE KWAME Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi, has virtually become a ghost town, the paper can state.
During a visit to the school’s campus on Tuesday morning, the entire campus was very quiet with no student in sight.
This was barely 24 hours after the university was closed down following wild protests and destruction of properties on Monday.
The school authorities are yet to announce when the school would be reopened, but rumours indicated that the shutdown would last for months.
Destruction of Items
Incensed students of the university went berserk on Monday destroying anything they laid their sight on.
Vehicles, motorbikes and other items, including computers that contained important information of the school and students, were not spared.
The students, numbering thousands, were supposed to demonstrate peacefully against maltreatments they alleged the school authorities had been meting out to them.
But in the course of what initially looked like a peaceful march, the students went overboard and openly destroyed everything that crossed their path.
Soldiers Takes Over
During DAILY GUIDE’s visit on Tuesday, not a single student was seen on the campus as they had heeded an order to leave the campus and go home.
The entire campus was looking like a war zone as military vehicles were spotted parked at several vantage points on the vast university campus.
Some of the soldiers, who were heavily armed, were seen patrolling the school, perhaps to deal with any danger that might crop up.
The paper also saw armed policemen, who were, apparently, supporting the military men to provide the needed security in the school.
