KOD burning the shirt
Fashion icon and radio & TV presenter, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), on Saturday burnt some of his shirts which he bought from Donald Trump’s signature collection years ago.
That was the CEO of the Nineteen57 fashion house’s reaction to the US president’s disparaging comment about Africa countries, Haiti and El Salvador.
Trump allegedly used the words “shithole countries” to describe Haiti, El Salvador and African countries in response to the suggestions by lawmakers that they restore protections for immigrants from these countries.
The comment had attracted a lot of condemnation around the world.
In a Twitter message on Saturday, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo said, “The language of @RealDonaldTrump that African nations, Haiti and El Salvador are ‘shithole countries’ is extremely unfortunate.”
President Akufo-Addo added, “We will not accept such insults, even from the leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful.”
KOD, who turned 40 years old on Saturday, posted a video via his Facebook wall, where he explained that at the time he bought the shirts, he thought Donald Trump was a man he could look up to.
However, based on the recent conduct of the American President, he decided to burn the shirt.
“Africans and the oppressed around the world. I chose my 40th birthday to burn this signature collection shirt from Donald J Trump! I bought this shirt four years ago because as a child, I thought Trump was someone I could look up to…That shithole doesn’t deserve a place in my space…I’m burning this on behalf of all Africans and the oppressed across the world,” KOD said.
