Comfort Asante flanked by her supporters after her approval
Comfort Asante, President Akufo-Addo’s nominee, who was rejected during the first round of elections for the position of municipal chief executive (MCE) for New Juaben in the Eastern Region, has finally gotten the nod at the second round.
The 65-year-old woman did not get the two-thirds majority required at the first round of voting but during the second attempt on Wednesday, Madam Comfort Asante had 77 ‘YES’ votes, representing 98.71 per cent with one person voting ‘NO’ – representing 1.29 percent.
In her acceptance speech the University of Cape Coast lecturer thanked the assembly members for her endorsement and added that, she was ready to work within the assembly’s framework to serve residents of the New Juaben municipality.
At Adeiso, the capital of Upper West Akim, the president’s nominee, Eugene Sackey, was overwhelmingly endorsed by the 38 members of the assembly during the second round of voting.
