Krontihene Disowned By Family

The Queen mother and elders of the family

THE BUSUAPANIN and elders of Bokoro Royal Family of Kronti Division of Wenchi Traditional Council, Nana Asem Boakye, have disowned the Krontihene of the traditional area, Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokrok II and claimed he has been destooled.

According to busuapenin, the Krontihene has acted against the tradition and custom of the people of Wenchi, of whom he was installed to lead. His action and inactions since he was enstooled as the krontihene of the area is thwarting the development of the area, thus necessitating his removal. Also according to busuapenin due to Nana Owusu-Ansah’s behaviour, he has once been convicted to prison custody by a Techiman Circuit court in 2015, and so not fit to lead them.

The decision to denounce Nana Owusu-Ansah was announced at a press conference at Wenchi yesterday by members of the Bokoro Royal family led by the busuapenin, Nana Asem Boakye.

Stating reasons for the decision to distance themselves from the krontihene, Nana Asem Boakye said the latest disagreement by Owusu-Ansah with the queen mother, Nana Atoaa Ampofo Sramangyedua II’s choice for a new paramount chief for Wenchi, necessitated their action.

‘We see the continuous disagreement with the queen mother over selection of successive paramount chiefs for the area and its attendant litigation at the court as against traditions and customs of our people and therefore delaying development of the area.  We the Bokoro Royal Family of the Kronti division are in support of the queen mother and accept her nomination of Nana Anye Amoapong Ntabrako III known in private life as Kwaku Abrefa Damoah, as the new paramount chief of Wenchi’, he noted.

‘This uncustomary act of the krontihene gave birth to protracted and series of litigation between the Krontihene  and the queen mother of Wenchi, at  the judicial committee of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs.  The action ended up in the Supreme Court of Ghana, which is the highest court of the land and the last appellate court on chieftaincy matters ruled in favour of the queen mother, around 2013 and directed her to go ahead  and nominate a candidate for the position of  omanhene Wenchi as custom demand.’

We the elders and the members of the Bokoro Royal Family of Wenchi strongly declared that we had never and do not in any way support Nana Owusu-Ansah Kroko II on anything concerning Wenchi Chieftaincy matters. We are solidly behind the queen mother in everything that she has done with regard to enstoolment of the new omanhene of Wenchi. We want peace in Wenchi since without peace; there cannot be any development in our traditional area, the busuapanin said.
