A notice of poll for the upcoming Kumawu by-election circulating on social media has been deemed fake by the management of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The notice featured two independent candidates wearing kente cloth and both having a symbol of a bird.
However, the EC clarified that a draft notice of poll, with the photographs of the independent candidates, was prepared and submitted for approval from the district office but was not approved by the Commission nor gazetted.
The EC later assigned a new symbol for the second independent candidate after he refused to heed advice to change his symbol.
The Kumawu by-election is scheduled for tomorrow, May 23, 2023 following the death of the previous MP, Philip Basoah, who was buried on Saturday May 20, 2023.
The ballot paper has Ernest Yaw Anim, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, followed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwasi Amankwaa, and then the two independent candidates.
