Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC
The Lawra Constituency Executive Committee of the NDC has sacked two party executives for campaigning for an independent candidate Samson Abu, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra constituency.
This follows a statement issued by the General Secretary of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia on November 1, 2016, regarding the breach of the party’s code of conduct by some members of the party.
The sacked executives were the Constituency Communications Officer, Peter Assibi Kaayir and the Constituency Women’s Organizer, Hajia Bintu Alhassan.
The Lawra Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Joshua Lotaa who confirmed the dismissal of the party executives to DAILY GUIDE said they endorsed the nomination form of the independent parliamentary candidate and had openly campaign for him.
According to him, the conduct of the two executives was in breach of article 45 and 46 of the party’s constitution and in line with the directives issued by the General Secretary, the two ceased to be members of the party with immediate effect.
“They are no longer executive members of the party and cannot hold themselves as such’, he said
The Constituency Chairman indicated that they have been served officially by the party and ordered that party properties in their possession be returned to the office.
Last year, Bede Ziedeng, former Upper West Regional Minister won the NDC parliamentary primaries with a margin of 16 votes over the incumbent, Samson Abu.
Bede Ziedeng, will face a stiff competition from the MP who wants to be retained as an independent candidate.
Some election experts have indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy Director of Communications, Anthony Karbo will enjoy a free ride to parliament with the existing division in the NDC.
However, the party has requested the immediate return of the its van with registration number GB 2786-12 which is in Mr Abu’s  custody since November, 2015 as well as other party properties.
