President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo is expected to leave Ghana today, August 30, 2018 to the People’s Republic of China for a state visit.
Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, who announced this yesterday in Accra, said the President shall arrive in China on August 31 to begin the visit on September 1.
Whilst in China, the President is due to hold a series of bilateral economic and political engagements with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and the business community in that country.
President Akufo-Addo, the Minister disclosed, would first meet the Chinese President to discuss economic relations between the two countries.
The discussions between the two countries, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said, would focus on railways and roads, education, health, industrialization and the ‘Smart City’ initiative.
Mr Oppong-Nkrumah indicated that President Akufo-Addo is expected to be accompanied by about 90 business people from the private sector who would hold high-level business-to-business discussions with their Chinese counterpart, saying “of course, these people are traveling at their own expense.”
The President would participate in some business forums, as well as a political forum with the Chinese President, he stressed, adding that “Ghana and China have very strong relations and we will seek to deepen it.”
According to him, about eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) are expected to be signed for the various sectors during the President’s visit.
The President is also due to participate in the China-Africa Cooperation Conference, which will see about 40 heads of state participating.
He would return to Ghana immediately after the engagements.
