Rev Emmanuel Adow Obeng poses with matriculants
Rev. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, President of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG), has expressed worry about the crisis in country’s banking sector.
Delivering his speech at the second matriculation for 219 graduate students at the Akuapem Campus of the university in the Eastern Region on Friday, he indicated that universities must imbibe values of truth and integrity into the students.
The Abetifi Campus admitted 91 students, Akuapem, 76 and Kumasi, 52 for the Masters in Educational Studies and Masters in International Development programmes.
According to him, graduates from the country’s universities, who are vested in values and social justice, would take responsibility for their actions.
“Our mandate is not just to churn out huge numbers of student but it is even more critical that while they are in school, efforts are made to imbibe values of truth, right conduct that are commensurate with socio-cultural, economic and environmental realities of the country into them,” he stated.
This is the only way the country can check corruption, lies, intolerance and many ills that seem to be tearing us apart as a people, he explained.
The public universities have failed woefully in this area and this why it’s even more expedient that the country’s faith-based tertiary institutions must take up the challenge.
“It’s equally important that these faith-based colleges of education remain with their respective owners when the policy of converting them into university colleges comes into force.
Rev. Prof Adow Obeng indicated that the M.ED programme is designed to provide opportunities for graduates who are desirous of teaching and those who are aspiring to be administrators and managers.
The president of the university further announced that the university, which is focused on producing leaders to take up responsible positions in public and private sectors of the national economy, has received accreditation to offer the M.A International Development Studies and MSc Environmental Health and Sanitation programmes.
