Members of the Association of Lotto Marketing Companies (LMCs) have threatened to boycott their activities if the National Lottery Authority (NLA) fails to streamline as well as curtail the nefarious activities of illegal banker-to-banker operators.
The LMCs stated that they were in support of a decision taken by the NLA, particularly licensing, controlling, monitoring and ensure that all their activities are in line with acceptable standards.
According to them, they also suggested the situation will be brought on board to NLA platform for them to operate in order to ensure a win-win situation where they will continue earn their living and NLA, for that matter government will also be getting her fair share of revenue.
“NLA has put in measures to sanitize the lotto business, but if we see them dilly-dallying to ensure that the measures come to fruition, we will advise ourselves”, General Secretary Kofi Frimpong, cautioned.
Their threats follow a press conference by Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) and its allies including Concerned Lotto Agents and Writers Association have called on government to halt its intentions to collapse private lotto business in the country.
According to them, the move by the government to collapse the private lotto operators business through the National Lottery Authority (NLA) would increase the already high rate of unemployment and worsen the economic hardship in the country.
At a press conference in Accra, Monday August 26, spokesperson and lawyer for the Associations, Ato Konduah, said the intended use of the security agents to harass private lotto operators will not give any benefit to the government but rather perpetrate the new Chinese platform rental fee fraud against the state under the watch of management at NLA.
