President John Mahama
President John Mahama has announced a GH¢40 million package to support Ghana’s film industry and other creative sectors.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament yesterday the President praised Ghana’s growing global appeal.
“Ghana has become a favourite tourism destination because of our history, culture, our art, music, fashion and our food,” he said.
Out of the total amount, GH¢20 million has been set aside specifically for the film industry, including key players such as Kumawood and Ghallywood. The funding is expected to improve film production, distribution and overall industry growth.
Another GH¢20 million has been earmarked for other creative arts sectors.
“I believe this injection of money will bolster our creative sectors,” President Mahama stated.
He also pledged his personal support for the industry.
“I wish to assure the creative industry and the Ministry of Tourism that I will be your personal ambassador for the promotion of tourism and the creative sector,” he affirmed.
