President John Daramani Mahama has assured the people of the Upper East Region that, his government is committed towards the improvement of the road network in the region, and only prays that, the residents will exercise some restrain, as efforts are made to spread developmental projects across the country.
According to him, he appreciates how the people of the region feel about the bad nature of roads in the region, adding that the development of the region is very important to his government and will never sideline the Upper East Region in his development agenda.
“We have gone round the country and the socio-economic works that this government has undertaken is very massive. Water, electricity, schools, hospitals and polyclinics, roads; these are five areas in which massive transformations are taking place in our country. I believe that with the track record this government has set, Ghanaians score us mark that shows that we have done what we were mandated to do. We are continuing to work and I wish to tell the traditional leaders that, if we are not yet on your road, it does not mean we won’t do it. It starts from somewhere and ends somewhere,” the President said.
President Mahama was speaking at Zebilla in the Bawku West district to commence his “Accounting to the People Tour” in the Upper East. He is expected to spend three days in the region to inspect on-going projects, cut sod for some new projects to start and also meet some identifiable groups in the region.
The President Mahama on the first day of his tour cut sod for work to start on the controversial Bawku-Bolgatanga road at a ceremony at Zebilla. According to him, the road is an important road in the development of the region and when completed will encourage farmers to be able to cart their farm produce easily to other parts of the North and also to the Southern sector to sell or export.
He also visited the on-going Bawku Water Project to ascertain the status of work done so far. The Bawku Water Project when completed is expected to expand the scope of water supply in the Bawku Municipality and beyond.
He was accompanied by the various Members of Parliament from the Bawku Traditional Area and other dignitaries in government and party functionaries.
