The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has organised its end of year staff awards ceremony to recognise deserving employees of the tertiary health facility who have shown leadership in their line of work.

The event, which was held in three phases in observance of the COVID-19 protocols, also served as a means for the staff to unwind and socialise with colleagues from other departments of the hospital.

In all, over 100 staff from the various departments of the hospital were awarded with certificates of recognition and prizes ranging from deep freezers, table top fridges, television set and gas cookers among others.

Chief Executive Officer of KBTH, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, congratulated the awardees while urging the entire staff to work harder to help management make the hospital a centre of excellence.

He said they must work with the purpose of making the hospital synonymous to hope, trust, solution, and empathy, adding that every staff was important to the health care delivery value chain.

“People who excel are people who are not just working to get a salary at the end of the month but they understand the purpose for which they are there,” he said, adding, “If you know your purpose, you will do all that you can to become excellent in what you are doing.”

He was of the view that it was possible for KBTH to offer first class services and that every member of the health care team could make it possible.

“Since you have shown the light of excellence, I don’t want it to end there; I want you to become a catalyst for transforming the hospital into a centre of excellence. Let us spread the light, let us show leadership is not only from the top,” he added.

Dr. Ampomah further noted that the hospital management would continue to pursue their transformation agenda and make the hospital a centre of excellence for both local and international clients who desire to have access to a quality tertiary health facility.

One of the initiatives to be rolled out, he said, was a staff medical scheme that would take the financial burden of workers at the health facility who need medical attention.
