Taric Sadiq displaying the chains and the rings (L) and Toffic Tahiru Mohammed (R)
A 26-YEAR-OLD motor mechanic at Aboabo, a Muslim populated area in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, was reportedly shot dead over silver rings and chains last Friday evening.
Taric Sadiq, the deceased, was reportedly shot in the head by one Toffic Tahiru Mohammed, who had since that incident allegedly gone into hiding.
Sadiq’s chains and rings were said to have been seized by Toffic and the former’s attempt to get them back resulted in his demise.
He and his friends reportedly went to Toffic’s house at Sepe Junction for the jewelry but in the process confusion ensued between the two.
Toffic, who was said to be extremely angry, allegedly dashed into his room and returned with a long gun which he used to shoot him (Taric).
The suspect, who perhaps felt remorseful after committing the heinous crime, rushed Taric to the hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources told this paper that Taric gave the silver chains and the rings to one of his friends, who happens to be a nephew of Toffic, aged about 33 years.
Taric on Friday requested for his jewelries from the said friend, but he (friend) told him that his uncle, Toffic, had seized them.
He and his three friends, including the one he gave the jewelries to, reportedly visited Toffic’s house at about 9pm on Friday with intent to collect them.
Sources said Taric’s demand for the seized items got Toffic infuriated and so he ordered Taric and his friends to leave his house immediately.
Toffic, who looked angry, allegedly dashed into his room and returned with a long gun which he used to first fire a warning shot to scare Taric and his friends.
After the warning shot, Taric and his friends, who were then scared, decided to leave the house but Toffic purportedly fired another shot into Taric’s head.
Taric’s friends then rushed out of the house to Aboabo to blow an alarm but when some people came there only blood stains were found in the house.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Taric were buried Saturday morning at the Tafo cemetery after Muslim prayers at the Aboabo school field.
