Shipping and logistics giants, McDan Group, has honoured its promise of constructing a modern day artificial pitch for the people of La.
Yesterday, a sword cutting ceremony preceded the construction of the facility at the La Town Park.
Youth and Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, lauded McDan Group Executive chairman, Dr Daniel McKorley for the facility saying, “That falls in line with President Akufo Addo’s vision of providing modern sporting facilities aimed at equipping the youth. Dr McKorley has been very supportive to the youth; his contribution to tennis in the country deserves commendation.
“McDan continues to inspire the youth with his corporate social responsibilities. This clearly demonstrates investment in the youth and that secures their future. Let’s use sports for job creation and crime prevention.”
He urged Municipal Chief Executives to help government secure lands for such projects.
The GH¢2 million facility is being constructed by Wembley Sports Construction Limited and will house a eleven-a-side football pitch, spectators stand, floodlight and washrooms.
General Manager, Wembley Sports Construction, Nana Antwi said “This is in line with our vision of one constituency, one artificial pitch; our next project would be a seven-a-side facility at Okponglo, East Legon.”
It is expected to be completed in four months.
It is Wembley Sports Construction’s eighth project after Kotobabi, Dzorwulu, Nungua, Accra Academy, Kyebi, Madina and Sukura.
