IT WAS virtually a one-sided affair as 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club, who didn’t show any mercy, disintegrated the Sunyani Tennis Club with a 12-3 victory to lift aloft this year’s annual Kilit Tennis Championship trophy.
Mess Tennis, who were playing at home, paraded their best team therefore it was not a surprise when they won the singles by 5-1 score line and repeated the dose on their hapless opponents with 7-2 victory in the doubles.
The visiting team also paraded an equally talented tennis stars, including the Paramount Chief of Berekum, Daasebre Amankran Diewuo II, who initially displayed moments of brilliance and their determination to carry the day.
But as the game gathered momentum, the stamina of the Sunyani Tennis team became a huge suspect, therefore Mess Tennis capitalized on that advantage to whitewash their opponents to the chagrin of the away team and their fans.
The trophy presentation ceremony was witnessed by the Managing Director of Evergreen Chemicals Ltd, sole agent of Kilit Insecticide Spray and other Polygard Products, Mr. John Dele and his wife Mrs. Abigail Dele.
The colourful ceremony was given a royal touch as Nana Adu Asare, the Amakomhene in Kumasi and Daasebre Amankran Diewuo II, the Paramount Chief of Berekum, also attended the event.
Samuel Ampadu-Kyei aka ‘Kyikyiss’, President of Mess Tennis commended Evergreen Chemicals Ltd for their continual support for Mess Tennis, which had helped to promote the sport in the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large.
Kyikyiss, who is also the National Vice President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, passionately appealed to other corporate organizations to emulate the shining example of Evergreen Chemicals Ltd so that tennis would continue to grow in Ghana.
The MD of Evergreen Chemicals Ltd, Mr. John Dele, assured of his companies readiness to sponsor the event in the coming years, stressing that he was highly impressed about the massive transformation at Mess Tennis.
The Deputy Commander for 4BN, Major Owusu, also stressed the need for better and sustained collaboration between the military and civilians, adding that Mess Tennis had improved greatly on and off the tennis court, in recent times.
