Lawal Fuseini
The security man who illegally bugged the office of Managing Director of the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) Mr. Bennet Aboagye, leading to the interdiction of the boss is crying for salary increment.
Lawal A. Fuseini claimed there is ‘serious abnormality’ or ‘error’ in his salary placement even though he was the same person who claimed his ‘secret recordings’ captured the MD increasing the salaries of some Metro Mass Workers whom he claimed were New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizers.
Lawal’s action sparked heated debate as to whether it was appropriate for him to secretly record the conversations of his boss on a daily basis for many weeks.
Initially, Lawal claimed the secret recordings were done by ‘some people’ but later confirmed he acted alone.
Mr. Aboagye has always said that Lawal wanted to ‘blackmail’ him and other aides who worked in his office and has vowed to ensure that justice is served.
A five-member committee was set-up by the Metro Mass Boss to investigate the allegations as captured on the supposed tape and it is unclear if the committee had concluded its work five months after the incident.
The argument at the time was that once the MD and Lawal were trading accusations and counter-accusations, there was the need for the two to step aside for the investigations to proceed, but DAILY GUIDE learnt that Lawal is still at post but the MD is on suspension.
In his petition for a salary increment, Lawal said he is a degree holder and had worked in the Ghana Police Service for 11 years before being employed at Metro Mass in December 2015 where he said “he was placed on salary group 15 and awarded Merit Step 1.”
He disclosed in the letter that he was far above another Metro Mass security coordinator called WO Moses Nutako but his colleague, whom he claimed had never been to the university, was on a higher salary scale.
‘I therefore deem this as an administrative error and would crave your indulgence to have a second look at my salary placement for it is a violation of the CBA of the company,” Lawal said in his letter of August 15, 2018, to the management of Metro Mass.
According to Mr. Aboagye, Lawal had bugged his office with a recording device and threatened to release some audio conversations of him to the public if an amount of GH¢1m was not paid.
In his response, Mr. Aboagye confirmed paying an amount of GH¢40, 000 to Lawal but stated that the amount was to trap Lawal to retrieve the supposed recording from him as advised by the Police CID.
