A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) preliminary investigation has established that the military vehicle used for an illegal sand winning operation at Kasoa was driven by a civilian driver working with the GAF.
According to Col E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director of Public Relations of GAF, “Isaac Appiah Kubi took advantage of the military vehicle in his possession to assist his accomplices in the criminal act.”
While describing the action as reprehensible, he gave the assurance that the culprit will be disciplined in accordance with prevailing military standards.
“GAF wishes to once more caution all impersonators who use military accoutrement without authorisation that they would be severely dealt with by law when caught,” the PR Director stressed.
The GAF has stated that “it would cooperate with the civil police in their investigations into this case and any member of staff being uniformed personnel or civilian employee found culpable would be dealt with according to our regulations.”
The Kasoa Divisional Police Command is holding four persons; one of them a dismissed soldier, and a military civilian employee for attacking and robbing sand winners.
Five persons who sustained injuries in the attack were rushed to the Winneba Trauma Hospital for attention.
The suspects arrived at the sand winning site aboard a military vehicle with registration number 46 GA 92 last Wednesday.
The Kasoa Police traced the suspects who fled the crime scene, to the palace of Nai Atopai.
Those arrested were Kwame Ampaw, who was later discovered to be a dismissed military soldier, Isaac Appiah, a mechanic and a civilian employee at Burma Camp, Emmanuel Arthur and Basit Sulley.
