Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, has warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse along the Tema Motorway and other major highways.
In a statement, the minister said his ministry’s attention has been drawn to indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highways by operators of motorking tricycles, popularly called “Bola Taxis.”
He noted that “the ministry wishes to bring the attention of the general public and the operators of these vehicles that stringent measures have been introduced to effectively monitor this illegal practice and that the security personnel have been deployed to apprehend and bring to book such culprits.”
The Minister announced that the Kpone Landfill Site would be opened 24 hours effective Thursday, June 21, 2018 to ensure that waste is disposed off at the site around the clock.
“This should make it possible for “Bola Taxi” operators and other waste collectors to be able to able to dispose of the waste without delay or hindrance,” he said.
Mr Adda entreated the general public to report such illegal dumping to the security agencies to enable them effect arrest.
