Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh
THERE SEEM to be no end to the media war that the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, is waging against the Bono Regional Minister, Ama Kumi Richardson, and his own brother, the Land and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.
During the run up to the 2020 general elections, the MP on a local radio station called ‘Nimde3 FM’ in Sunyani accused the two ministers of dubious government land sale.
Immediately after the election, the Majority Chief Whip again has accused the regional minister and his own brother for masterminding the abysmal performance of the party in the region.
Speaking on the same FM station recently, Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh alleged that his brother, Asomah-Cheremeh, and Ms. Richardson paid an unspecified amount of money to opposition persons to work for the defeat of all senior NPP MPs in the region and called on President Akufo-Addo not to reappoint them again.
However, the MP for the Dorma West Constituency, Alhaji Ali Maiga Halidu, who lost his seat, has denied claims that both ministers masterminded the defeat of some NPP MPs in the region, and said on the contrary they were very instrumental in terms of the provision of resources to the party especially in the Dorma West Constituency.
Speaking on ‘Ark FM’ to refute the allegations, he said “how can the two persons who helped us with their personal resources turn around and work against our election. No, this is not true.”
“Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh contributed a lot to my campaign and that of other colleagues in the region. He gave out motorbikes and physical cash to a number of constituencies, same as the regional minister,” he said, adding “I will challenge Ameyaw-Cheremeh to provide evidence that these two people gave money to the electorate to vote against the NPP candidates because he is a parliamentarian and the name of the game is evidence.”
The MP said blaming those who sacrificed for the party in the just-ended polls was needless and would further disintegrate the front of the rank and file of the party.
He said the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Bono Regional Minister should rather be encouraged and applauded to continue to lend the needed support for the party in the region.
“I cannot quantify the support I have received from these two and wish that we encourage them to continue to do more for us rather than condemning them and subjecting them to needless public attacks for they are the hope for the region,” he stressed.
