Ministry Saves Ghana $96,000 …On Accommodation

Minister Isaac Asiamah

Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has revealed that his outfit has succeeded in saving the country $96,000 per year.

He indicated that the Ministry in the past spent a hard currency of $8,000 per month on accommodation for Black Stars coaches; a situation he described as wasteful.

The Minister said in a Sports Fund Forum yesterday that accommodation expenses (Rent/Hotel bills) stirred him to secure a permanent residence for Black Stars coaches at the Airport Residential Area.

“We have just acquired a house to accommodate the Black Stars coach. Can you believe that we used to spend $8000 every month on accommodation for the Black Stars coach?

“What crime has Ghana committed to waste such an amount on accommodation? Now with this house, we can save that money for other things,”   said the sports chief.

He has, as a result, commended Works and Housing Minister Samuel Ata Akyea for his role in facilitating the availability of the accommodation.

The sports chief mentioned that the move forms part of the many plans of the Ministry to ensure a paradigm shift in sports.

Until the acquisition of the permanent residence, Ghana had spent thousands of dollars on expatriate coaches like Ratomir Dujkovic, Milovan Rajevac, Stevan Milisovic, Avram Grant etc.

Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah is the first occupant of the plush residence.
