THE MMOFRATURO Girls School in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region is determined to recapture its position as the leading basic school for girls in the country.

The school, which was formed by the Methodist Church of Ghana, used to be the leading girls basic school in the country, producing several influential women in leadership positions.

However, the school, along the way, lost its status as the best basic school for girls in the country and efforts are being made now by authorities to recapture that enviable position.

Rt. Rev. Christopher Nyarko Andam, Bishop of the Methodist Church of Kumasi, said the school had put in place new measures to achieve that aim.

Speaking with DAILY GUIDE during the launch of the 90 years celebration of Mmofraturo Girls School, he said, “We will bring back the old glory days of the school soon”.

Rt. Rev. Andam stated, “The school will engage qualified teachers and motivate them well to deliver on their mandate in the classroom.”

He said there was a rigorous policy to transform the infrastructural base of the school to help make the school look modern and conducive for teaching and learning.

Also, Rt. Rev. Andam said they were planning to purchase a brand new bus for the school “so that the day students can come to class at the right time to learn.”

According to him, the Mmofraturo Girls Old Students Association is also being revamped so that old students could contribute to make the school the envy of all.

The Methodist Bishop stated that discipline, which was among the key tenets for the formation of the school, was still being pursued by the school authorities.

“This is a faith basic school and it is our mandate to produce God-fearing girls, who academically and morally are upright to contribute to national growth in future,” he added.

Rt. Rev. Andam said Mmofraturo Girls School had produced lawyers, doctors, nurses, lecturers and other prominent people, who are serving the country.

Dr. Wilhelmina J. Donkoh, the guest speaker for the event, called for the school to adopt what she called ‘holistic learning’ approach in order to produce quality students.

“Adopting a holistic learning approach can result in the successful development of hundreds of children into well-rounded and successful graduates and professionals in the society,” he added.
