This year, MoneyGram took a major lead to sponsor Citi FM’s Write-Away Contest.
The competition sought to challenge the creativity and writing skills of pupils between the ages of 10 and 14.
According to MoneyGram, the initiative forms part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility to improve the habit of reading and writing among the young people of Ghana.
This year’s Write-Away Contest saw over 1,500 entries pouring in from all over the country.
The judges who had a very hectic time selecting the best stories from the lot finally settled on the best 20 essays.
In order to sustain the interest of students and encourage them to exploit their reading and writing skills to their best ability, MoneyGram again provided school bags, exercise books and GH¢500 to all 20 shortlisted contestants.
MoneyGram further rewarded the third, fourth and fifth positions with cash prizes of GH¢3, 000, GH¢2, 000 and GH¢1, 000 respectively.
The first runner-up walked away with a GH¢2,000 cash prize, while the winner was given a whopping GH¢ 5,000 by MoneyGram.
In addition, MoneyGram presented a GH¢10,000 cash prize to Beacon International School, the school that produced the winner, Hannah Yeboah, to set up any educational project.
Hannah Yeboah who could not hide her excitement thanked MoneyGram and Citi FM for such a great initiative and opportunity.
Other sponsors included the Students Loan Trust Fund who for the past two years has been very instrumental in ensuring that the Write-Away Contest has remained a success and a source of creative hope for young writers.
