‘Monitor Scrap Dealers’ Activities’

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Oman Berlyn GH Ltd., Sule Baah Bitee, has appealed to the government to address the activities of scrap dealers in the country.

According to him, these dealers, also known in the local parlance as ‘Condemns’, engage in various unethical behaviours while seeking scraps, which is a cause for concern.

In an interview with the media, Mr. Bitee expressed his worries with the extent to which these dealers pollute the environment.

“The illegal activities of these people have increased so much that they have made it unsafe to even leave the house for work because they just bump into homes and pick up rods, wires and other stuff without considering their usefulness,” he stated.

The businessman suggested that the government enacts laws to regulate their actions and movements to make it possible for the police to restrict them.

“Scrap dealers are supposed to be around places that sell or deal with left over metals or aluminums, and the likes with that of magazine shops but they rather walk around vicinities that have no connection with such dealings and take anything they want without permission,” he said.

Mr. Bitee, who himself is a victim of the nefarious activities of some scrap dealers, noted that if no action is taken, they may escalate their activities to stealing high-tension electricity cables along various routes.

He suggested that sign posts and bill boards be placed within neighbourhoods warning people against scrap dealings in those areas, as areas like Suame Magazine is the best place to deal with scraps and not residential areas.

In another development, Mr.  Bitee, who owns phone shops in the Regions, raised concerns about the increasing rate of daylight robbery in Kumasi City.

He revealed that several customers who purchased phones and other items from his shop have reported cases of robbery in broad daylight within the main Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi, precisely Pampaso, Kejetia, and Adum.

In light of these issues, he appealed to the police and City authorities to take responsibility and address this problem in order to ensure the safety of the people.
