Stolen phonesÂ
A sales assistant of Isalat International Ghana Limited, attached to the Marina Mall in Accra, has been charged for allegedly stealing assorted mobile phones worth over $133,000.
The accused, Sofia Marais Kardani, is reported to have stolen the said phones between June and December last year.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Stephen Kwame Adjei, the complainant detected that the accused, who is a Moroccan, could not account for a total of 514 assorted phones.
The accused denied the offence in a court presided over by Ruby Naa Adjeley Quayson, and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢600,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.
As part of the bail conditions, the accused is to deposit his traveling passports until varied by the court.
The facts of the case are that the complainant, Mohammed Ali, is an accountant of the above-named company which deals in assorted cellular phones and accessories, and owns retail shops named i-2 Company Limited at Marina Mall in Accra.
The company employed Sofia in 2015 to take charge of the shop and that during the latter part of 2016, the company detected that the accused was unable to account for phones supplied.
This alerted the employers to take stock at the shop which revealed that 514 assorted cell phones valued at $133,867.91 could not be accounted for.
A report was made at the police station, leading to the arrest of the accused who upon interrogation, said that she had sold the unaccounted for phones to some individuals on credit and were yet to pay.
Sofia gave the names and contacts of the individuals she alleged to have sold the phones on credit to, but when they were contacted, they reportedly denied having purchased any phones from the accused person on credit.
