MEMBERS OF the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance have unanimously declared their support for Subah Infosolutions Ghana Limited, a leading Information Technology (IT) company, to partner the government in undertaking the national identification project.

The Akufo-Addo administration began the processes to implement a comprehensive national identification project upon assuming power.

The move is in fulfillment of a long-held NPP campaign pledge to build a database of Ghanaians and other nationals resident in Ghana.

Four Committees: Legal, Technical, Financial and Oversight are expected to spearhead the project to ensure its successful implementation which is envisaged to be completed within a year.

But the MPs strongly believe government can achieve its target of completing the project within a year and reaching out to majority of Ghanaians as much as possible if it has Subah Infosolutions Ghana Limited, which has already developed a special national property and land identification and referencing as well as street-naming system, on board.

The MPs expressed their view during a familiarization tour of Subah’s offices along the Spintex Road and Roman Ridge, respectively, yesterday in Accra.

The system, DAILY GUIDE gathered, is expected to be used by institutions and agencies like banks, the Lands Commission, the Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, Ambulance Service and National Security, in the fight against crimes, fire outbreak, and in responding to medical emergencies, as well as land and property registrations, and revenue generations through taxation, among others.

The system has reportedly been operating on a pilot basis within the Greater Accra region since August 2016 where it has helped to generate about 1.4 million address points and it is expected to be launched by the end of March this year and spread across the country subsequently.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the tour, Deputy Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Alex Adomako-Mensah, explained that the system stands to support government immensely in undertaking the national identification project.

Director of Property, Data Bank (PDB), a subsidiary of Subah which developed the software, Prof. Felix N. Hammond, earlier explained that the system is based on the World Bank, Ghana and ISO frameworks for street-naming, addressing and geospatial platforms.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Assibey Yeboah, urged government to collaborate with Subah to get the necessary data it would need for the national identification project.
