Some of the app developers at work
Bless Sefenu Agordzo, a senior manager of Products & Services at MTN Ghana, has indicated that about 250 applicants have submitted various concepts for the fifth edition of the digital reality show dubbed ‘MTN Apps Challenge’.
In February this year, organisers of the reality show called for interested developers to submit their respective concepts under one of the three categories— university student, free lancer or senior high school.
The MTN Apps Challenge seeks, among other things, to bring together app developers, animators and technology enthusiasts to create concepts of products which can serve as solutions to making life easier.
Speaking at the screening of 48 developers during the second round of the show at the MTN House in Ridge in Accra on Friday, Mr Agordzo explained that MTN has GH¢200,000 price packages to give out to developers as part of the show.
The cash prize for the overall winner of the 2018 edition, according to him, ranges between GH¢15, 000 and GH¢20, 000.
“As part of efforts to motivate and encourage more female participation in the event, MTN has also introduced the best female developer category and for this we hope to see more females presenting concepts for consideration,” he stated.
Mr Agordzo continued, “As part of efforts to get more students and free lancers taking part in the show, our team embarked on a nationwide road show to a number of campuses during which period we sensitised them to educate the students on criteria for eligibility and what the season holds for them.”
