Ghana’s leading telecommunication network, MTN Ghana has launched the maiden edition of DigiFest, a festival designed to celebrate and showcase digital innovation, creativity, and opportunity.

MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, speaking at the event said MTN is committed to an inclusive digital future, seeing Africa’s progress is driven by tech and innovation. He described MTN Ghana as a digital company, not just telecoms, enabling people to live, work, and participate globally online.

“This festival is a celebration of our journey together so far, and the future we are building as a digital company. We are not simply connecting people to the internet; we are connecting them to opportunities, knowledge, jobs, and a future that is bold, inclusive, and digital,” he said.

MTN Ghana’s CEO shared that advancements in areas like mobile money, health, education, and AI are changing lives and creating new economic opportunities. He highlighted MTN’s significant investments in Ghana’s digital infrastructure – over $1 billion in the past five years, with an additional $240 million committed this year to boost coverage, speed, and digital connectivity.

“These investments represent schools accessing e-learning, small businesses reaching new markets, hospitals delivering smart healthcare, and innovators creating solutions that the world will one day celebrate as ‘Made in Ghana.’

“I want to personally challenge young innovators to bring forward groundbreaking ideas that can grow our minds. When you do, MTN will be there to support you. The next greatest idea should and will come from Africa—and it can come from Ghana,” he declared.

Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, Ibrahim Misto, said DigiFest represents a bold step in shaping Ghana’s digital future and creating opportunities for all.

“Today we celebrate the limitless possibilities of Ghana’s digital future, and the future we are building together as a truly digital company. Technologies such as AI, mobile gaming, and digital creativity are redefining industries—from banking and healthcare to agriculture and entertainment,” he said.

Mr. Misto highlighted the growth of gaming as a powerful industry that is now creating careers and professional opportunities for young people worldwide.

“DigiFest is not just about technology—it’s about creating a digital future where every individual, every business, and every community has the power to thrive. It is our way of bringing that future closer to our customers and our communities,” he added.
