MTN Records 11.2m Data Subscribers

MTN Ghana says it has recorded over 11.2 million data subscribers out of which 370,000 are 4G subscribers.

Asher Khan, Chief Marketing Officer for MTN Ghana disclosed this on behalf of the CEO, Ebenezer Asante Twum, at the opening of the 2017 edition of the company’s Internet Festival dubbed ‘iFest’ held at the Accra Mall.

MTN Ghana, he said, started data sales in 2007 with 2.3 million subscribers.

The 7th edition of iFest, which is held every September, was themed: “Living a connected Life”.

According to Khan, “The internet has become the nerve centre of many activities in our personal and professional lives which we can hardly do without.”

Subscribers now use internet for a number of purposes, including research, television shows and business transactions.

“Being the country’s first 4G service provider and market leaders in the industry, we owe it a duty to ensure our subscribers enjoy the best of our services,” he stated

Abdul-Latif Issahaku, Data and Devices Manager, averred that MTN has tripled Smartphone penetration on its networks which is an indication that more customers are buying into the future with the digital evolution.

He indicated that with the month of September being dedicated to the celebration of iFest, MTN is offering a number of give-aways including up to 400 percent bonuses to customers of 4G, wingles, smartphones, shopping vouchers and airtime.

“This month of September (iFest month), all prepaid and post paid customers on 4G network will be offered 100 percent bonus on the first bundle purchase, 200 percent on the second, 300 percent on the third and 400 percent on the fourth.

He further stated that similar Digital Fairs are expected to be held in Kumasi and other capitals throughout the country during the month, adding that planned market storms events, among others, would take place.
