Residents of Xavi-Dziehe in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region have been gripped with fear following the gruesome murder of two people in the community.
The murder which occurred at the home of the victims, who are siblings, is reported to have happened last Thursday at about 6pm.
Two residents who spoke to DAILY GUIDE noted that the nature in which the deceased were found dead was very disheartening and bizarre.
The Akatsi District Police Commander, Supt. Samuel Lartey Lawson, who confirmed the incident to the press, said the police have begun a full scale investigation into the incident which shook residents to the core.
He narrated that the victims, 78-years old Dela Kofi Sedor and his younger sister, 73-years old Ami Sedor, were butchered to death by unknown assailants.
He explained that on the night of the incident, the police received a call at about 6:20pm from the Chief of the area, Togbe Klutse; telling them about the incident.
The police quickly mobilized and moved to the scene. On arrival, they found the bodies in the two-bedroom house of the victims.
Dela Sedor was found seated in a blue plastic chair with his head almost severed while the body of her younger sister, Ami Sedor was found lying in the compound with multiple cutlass wounds on the head.
Supt. Lawson observed that although the victims’ house was surrounded by other houses, neighbours claimed they did not hear any unusual noise from the house that fateful day.
Family members and other close relations of the deceased also said they had no knowledge of any dispute between the deceased and anyone in the community.
Although the Police are yet to make any arrests, they suspect the act was undertaken by an individual. The Commander added that it was possible that the sister (disabled in one leg) saw the murderer killing her brother and attempted shouting while running away and ended up suffering the same fate as the brother.
Supt Lartey Lawson who assured residents of heightened security stressed that the assailant will be apprehended. He however, advised the public to always call the Police first in such instances before running to the media as it scares perpetrators to go into hiding.
He also pleaded with the public to also volunteer information to assist in their investigations, adding that such information will be kept confidential and the informant protected. Meanwhile, the bodies have been deposited at the St Paul’s Hospital at Akatsi awaiting autopsy.
