The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) led by its Director-General , Eric Nana Agyemang- Prempeh, has presented relief items to victims of the Chamba rainstorm in the Nanumba north municipality of the Northern region.
The donated items are 100 bags of rice, cooking oil, 200 pieces of blankets, 100 pieces of mosquito nets , 30 boxes of soap, 100 plastic buckets, 350 packs of roofing sheets, 100 plastic basins, 100 plastic plates, 100 plastic cups, 50 mattresses, among others.
The rainstorm which occurred on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, destroyed roofings of various schools , damaging learning materials , health facilities, police station and other valuables.
About 548 houses were destroyed, rendering 792 people displaced with six schools out of eight at Chamba being closed down indefinitely. Six persons were injured due to the rainstorm.
The Director-General of NADMO , presenting the items, said the intervention by NADMO was a sign of care of the President Akufo-Addo’s administration towards development and wellbeing of the people of Chamba.
“ I am here today by the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to present to you relief items to support you .”
He said the relief items donated were to enable victims whose houses were destroyed during the rainstorm to be able to fix them and move back to their houses with their families.
The Nanumba North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdulai Yaqoub, who received the relief items on behalf of the victims thanked the Director-General of NADMO , Mr Agyemang- Prempeh, and assured that the donated items will be presented to the affected victims.
Earlier, the Defence Minister who doubles as the MP for Bimbilla constituency, Dominic Nitiwul , visited the victims when the rainstorm occurred and supported them with 3,500 roofing sheets.
