It has emerged that one of the two persons selected by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality to take part in the election of a Council of State representative from the Western Region, held recently, was neither an elected nor appointed assembly member.
According to the Western Regional Secretariat of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), preliminary investigation has revealed that one Stephen Ayombisa, who was not an assembly member, took part in the voting which took place at the Regional Coordinating Council in Sekondi on February 11, 2025.
A statement issued by the Regional NALAG and signed by its President, Percy Ahenakwa, said it has come to the attention of the Western Regional Secretariat of NALAG that Stephen Ayombisa, who voted in the exercise, impersonated.
“This attitude of Stephen Ayombisa is an infringement of the 1992 Constitution, the Local Government Act, 2016 and the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960.
“We, have therefore, lodged official complaint with the police to investigate the issue and let the law take its course, to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit such crimes in future,” he indicated.
The recently held election saw a 32-year-old business man, Maxwell Boakye, being elected to the Council of State from the Western Region.
