MATTEW Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education has hinted that although the Nana Addo led administration has done a lot of things under the mainstream education government also has a keen interest in the vocational and technical education.
According to him “Since we assumed office, I don’t think the Ministry of Finance has spent much in other sectors than the education ministry. Kyebi has a DNA in education looking at how they have performed in the educational sector.
He added that “We promise to make sure technical and vocational schools are constructed and that, anyone who has the interest in vocational and technical schools gets the opportunity for the betterment of the country”.
The Education Minister made these known when he joined the Okyenhene to officially cut the sod for the commencement of an ultra-modern vocational and technical institutions initiated by ECO International in collaboration with the Government of Ghana at Asikam in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Ken Ofori Atta, the Minister of Finance in his speech expressed gratitude to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ECO International, Sam Adu for the project they have intended to do for the people of Abuakwa, saying that the amount involved in the project is $30,000,000.
He affirmed that they are expecting about a thousand students to benefit from the initiative as he believes that would transform the municipality.
He said, “Government has identified technical and vocational educations as an avenue for creating decent jobs for our unemployed youth without compromising on continuing professional development”.
Again, he believes the promotion of TVET will help with a solid foundation to develop Ghana to small-medium scale which will drive government’s transformation agenda with great potential to employ Ghanaian youth and graduates.
The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu touching on the step to revive technical and vocational schools in the country was of the view that a time will come where Ghanaians will be able to manufacture their own cars rather than exporting them from abroad.
He pleaded with Ghanaians to support ECO International in it’s quest to upgrade technical and vocational schools.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Atta Akyea also pleaded with the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to help him build affordable housing that would accommodate students to make the initiative complete.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who was the Special Guest of Honor, noted that “It is very important to pray and support this project. We pray the project becomes a blessing to the people of Abukwa and Eastern Region as a whole’’.
