President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo is upbeat about his chances and that of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in today’s general elections.
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at the Kyebi Newtown Rock of Ages one polling station in the Abuakwa South constituency earlier this morning, he said “my hope is that what I saw during my campaign was that the Ghanaian people have appreciated the work that my government has done over the 4years.”
“They are aware that not all the problems of our country has been solved these last 4years; they have seen that government is making a systematic attempt to confront the problems and provide solution and if what I saw before and during the campaign, I’m hoping, they will renew our mandate, endorsing the work that we have done these 4years. My expectation is that we will have a clear victory today”, he noted with optimism.
Asked about his impression about the process so far, he said “what I’m seing here is very encouraging; the process is very simple, very smooth and I’ve been able to exercise my civic duty to participate to determine who will be our next Member of Parliament and our next President. So I’m very happy with what I’ve seen.”
That aside, he noted that “we are very matured, civilised people [the Ghanaian people] and as we have proved in the past, we have deep attachment to democratic values and culture, I’m not at all surprised that process is going very smoothly and peacefully across the country.”
“My expectation is that it will be so till the very end and afterwards when the results are declared”, he emphasised.
