President Akufo-Addo and President Buhari

President Akufo-Addo left the country yesterday for the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

He was seen off at the Kotoka International Airport by Vice President Bawumia; Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare; Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway; Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul; Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Obed Akwa.

He is there at the invitation of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, for a two-day international conference on transformative governance in Africa.

President Akufo-Addo would deliver the keynote address at the conference under the theme, “How To Make Democracy Work For Africa.”

He was met on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa, some Nigerian officials and organisers of the event.

The Kukah Centre, which is organizing the event, is a Nigerian-based policy research institute founded by the Most Rev. Dr. Hassan Kukah.

The event is expected to be chaired by former Nigerian leader, General Yakubu Gowon, and likely to be attended by Nigerian Vice President Prof Oluyemi Oluleke Yemi Osinbajo.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has since been acting in his (president’s) stead in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo is expected back home today, February 15, 2018.
