President Nana Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo left Accra on Tuesday evening for neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire, to attend the funeral of the late Hamed Bakayoko. The said Bakayoko was who until his death the Ivorian Prime Minister.
His funeral began in the Ivorian Capital, Abidjan, on Wednesday 17th March, 2021, and President Akufo-Addo was there in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Authority,
An 8-day period of national mourning for the late Prime Minister was announced by Ivorian President Alassane Outtarra last Thursday, the burial having been scheduled for Friday, 19th March 2021.
President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials of the Presidency and of the Foreign Ministry.
He was expected back home yesterday 18th March, 2021. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had acted in his stead as President, in accordance with the provisions of Article 60(8) of the 1992 Constitution.
