Nana Tours Accra

President Nana Akufo-Addo

PRESIDENT NANA Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to commission and inspect 10 major projects as part of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region which will begin this week.

On Tuesday December 4, 2018, Mr. Akufo-Addo is due to begin the tour in accordance with his commitment to pay working visits to all 10 regions of Ghana each year.

This was made known yesterday by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah during the Information Ministry’s bi-weekly press briefings.

The current tour is reportedly the 20th of such visits the President has made across the country since he assumed office on January 7th, 2017 and it represents his final tour for 2018 as he has already visited nine other regions.

According to the minister, “on each tour, the President makes time to interact with chiefs and people, key stakeholders in the region as well as the Regional Security Councils. He also uses the opportunity to inspect on-going works across various sectors and commissions completed projects.”

Projects

The projects to be commissioned and inspected in the Greater Accra Region, the Minister indicated, are ongoing works on the Eastern Railway line in Accra, sod-cutting for the construction of the James Town Fishing Harbour, inspection of the Abossey Okai road construction, commissioning of a multipurpose Astro-Turf and community centre in Ablekuma Central.

The rest of the tasks for the president during the tour will be the commissioning of the new Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Complex, inspection of the ongoing works on the Tema Motorway Interchange project, inspection of ongoing construction works of concrete roads at Tema Industrial Area, inspection of construction works on the Madina-Adenta Highway footbridges, commission of a new Assembly Building and School Complex at Anyaa Sowutuom, inspection of a Sunda Limited One District One Factory project at Bortianor and a sod-cutting of an affordable housing project at Amasaman.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, Nana Akufo-Addo shall use the opportunity to apprise himself of the status of work as well as urging agencies and contractors to ensure diligence and value for money.

He added that “These and the many other projects that the President has inspected or commissioned on the other 9 tours have been funded even in the midst of the limited fiscal space and huge arrears inherited by the Akufo-Addo administration.”

More Projects

The Minister indicated that “the President expects that as outlined in the 2019 budget, the improving fiscal environment and significant reduction in arrears will afford the administration the opportunity to ramp up more economic infrastructure projects nationwide in 2019 and 2020.”
