Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan speaking to the assembly, after the nominee Aba Hagan (right) was rejected
The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District Assembly on Friday failed to confirm the President’s nominee, Aba Hagan, for the position of the District Chief Executive (DCE).
Out of the 40 valid votes cast, 17 went in her favour while 25 assembly members voted against her, with one ballot rejected.
The election was conducted by the District Electoral Commission (EC) officer, Obed Acquah Quansah, and supervised by the Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, chiefs, executives and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Quansah indicated that Madam Hagan failed to obtain the two-thirds majority required for her confirmation and gave the assembly members 10 days to come back and vote again.
The Regional Minister expressed disappointment with the assembly’s failure to confirm the DCE, adding that the district is lagging behind in terms of development and therefore the assembly members needed to confirm the DCE to enable her ensure total development of the area.
He urged the assembly members to consider the interest of the district and shun their parochial interests in the next election.
