Narcotic Convict Escapes From Koforidua Prison

CHARLES AGYEI, who is serving 10 years and nine months at the Koforidua Prisons in the Eastern Region, has allegedly broken jail.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that Charles Agyei alias Rasta, escaped Wednesday afternoon when he and four other inmates went out with a prison officer to fetch firewood along the Akwadum-Suhum road, near the new campus of All Nations University.

A source hinted DAILY GUIDE that Charles, currently declared wanted, was using a chainsaw machine to cut down the firewood.

He added that while the other inmates were gathering the firewood, he managed to flee after realizing that he was not being monitored by the officers.

Charles Agyei recently finished serving a 9-month jail term, and had begun the 10 years.

When contacted, the Koforidua Prisons Commander, Bob Dery, confirmed the incident but failed to give details on it.

Meanwhile, the prison officers under whose care the convict escaped, have been dispatched since Wednesday evening to search for him.
