Ade Coker
Supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are up in arms with the party’s national executives, claiming that they (executives) did not do well to ensure victory for incumbent President John Mahama in the December 7 presidential election.
The angry supporters, clad in red cloths with bands tied around their heads and hands, stormed the NDC Greater Accra Regional head office at Kokomlemle yesterday to register their frustration.
Reports say the activists heckled Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party; Kofi Adams, National Organizer; Campaign Coordinator, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the party’s Director of Elections and other executives for not doing enough to retain power.
The executives were nearly beaten up by the angry supporters.
According to reports, they poked their fingers in the eyes of Ade Coker who was getting out of his car, as he had promised to increase the region’s parliamentary seats to 25 but failed to do so.
The irate supporters were demanding explanations from the leaders as to why President Mahama could not win the mandate of Ghanaians, even though he ‘worked tirelessly.’
Mr. Mahama lost the December 7 presidential poll to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Nana Addo polled a total of 5,716,026 votes representing 53.85% while the NDC candidate, John Mahama, had 4,713,277 (44.40%).
President Mahama’s defeat has sent shockwaves to NDC supporters across the country, some of who are still finding it hard to realize that their leader has been booted out of power.
