The President Flanked By The Eastern Regional Executives Been Honor With A Citation
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that desperate attempts by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to tag his government as corrupt will fail.
The President’s comments follow recent expose on alleged corrupt acts in his government.
President Akufo-Addo, who disclosed this at a durbar of the chiefs and people of New Juaben at the Koforidua Jackson Park to round off a three-day tour of the Eastern Region recently, said people had accused him of failing to honour his promise to prosecute corrupt officials.
He cited the vetting of Boakye Agyarko, Minister for Energy, the alleged bribery at the presidency and latest bribery allegation involving the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the just-ended Expatriates Awards.
“There are two hardworking men in my office who were accused of corruption – my two deputy chiefs of staff. The CID looked into it but there was nothing. CHRAJ, with a boss John Mahama appointed, also looked into the allegations but there was nothing there.”
“Now they are saying Alan Kyerematen also went and extorted money but we looked into it and there was nothing there…The desperate effort to stigmatise my government with corruption is not going to work.”
President Akufo-Addo declared that “these are all attempts to label my government as corrupt, but they will not wash.”
He assured Ghanaians that he would do everything possible to tackle corruption to ensure that all Ghanaians benefit from the resources of the State.
President Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his readiness to prosecute all corrupt officials.
“One by one we shall see when the time comes, the clear lines between corruption and politics would be there for all to see. It’s just a matter of time.”
Commendation
“I recently heard the NDC say they will also enjoy my policies and work on them. If they believe the policies are good then why are they complaining? Inform them to stop talking because the talk will not bring them back to power but votes will; and I want to let them know Ghanaians will always vote on performance so they should let their talking reflect in their performance.”
President Akufo-Addo added that the tour was to thank the people of the Eastern Region for the massive support in the last elections.
“I will forever be grateful to you for this gesture”.
The President assured the chiefs that he would always listen to them in an effort to build Ghana.
He called for support for government policies such as the Planting For Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory.
Senior Minister
Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Senior Minister, on his part, said President Akufo-Addo had been faithful to Ghanaians by delivering on his campaign promises in a short time.
He mentioned the implementation of the free SHS policy and restoration of teacher and nursing training allowances, among others.
Mr Maafo mentioned the prosecution of the former National Communication Authority (NCA) officials which began last year, predicting that more corrupt officials would be prosecuted in the coming days.
“I’m sure you have heard in the news the prosecution of the public officials, who were dragged to court. Let me put on record that no public official who has engaged in acts of corruption will go scot-free. We are only taking time to investigate thoroughly so we can put together a solid case in court. All of them will face the law at all cost,” he added.
